Barasoain Church




Barasoain was originally part of Malolos until its official separation on August 31, 1859. In 1903, Barasoain became part of Malolos again. The old church constructed by Rev Francisco Royo was destroyed by fire in May 1884 but rebuilt by Rev Juan Giron in 1885. Barasoain Church was the seat of revolutionary congress which convened from September 1898 until February 1899 under the Presidency of Pedro Paterno. Among the important measures passsed by the Congress was the Malolos Constitution drafted by Felipe Calderon.

Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines housed the revolutionary congress which was inaugurated on September 15, 1898 whom Pedro Paterno was the President. Barasoain was the church where the congress discussed and approved Malolos Convention. Gratefully recognizing the significance of the events that occured here, University of the Philippines made a pilgrimage to the Barasoain Church and placed the marker on National Heroes Day on November 30, 1938.
